Laughter—it’s something we all do, but have you ever stopped to really think about how powerful it really is? A simple "lol" can turn a bad day around, strengthen relationships, and even improve your health.
Have you ever been laughing with someone and you keep feeding off of each other, and you are both dying laughing, can't breathe, start wheezing...well maybe the wheezing is just me lol! Mady and I do it all the time...then she says "Omg you're wheezing!" Fun fact- Mady has started wheezing these days too! It's so good...
I screenshot so many things and very rarely look at them, but I have them in case I want to ever look back at them. Last week I actually did. I was having a stressful day and took a minute to get out of the stressful environment. I started looking at some memes I had screenshotted years back...and started laughing so hard. I realized afterwards how much I needed that 2 minute laugh break. I was able to get back to work with a refreshed mindset and handle the stress in a much easier way.
Laughter is actually a natural stress reliever. It lowers cortisol levels (the hormone responsible for stress) and increases endorphins, your body’s feel-good chemicals. It also boosts circulation and relaxes your muscles, leaving you feeling refreshed and energized. Some studies even suggest that regular laughter can improve heart health and strengthen the immune system. Who knew?
But beyond the physical benefits, laughter plays a huge role in our social lives. It helps us connect with others, break the ice in awkward situations, and build stronger bonds. Shared laughter creates memories and deepens relationships, whether it’s with family, friends, or even strangers. We have all had those moments in serious settings where we look at a colleague, friend, or loved one and literally have to look down or cover our face trying not to laugh...unforgettable moments!
Let’s face it—life can be tough, especially these days. Stress, responsibilities, and challenges are inevitable, but laughter helps us navigate it all with a lighter heart. It shifts our perspective, making problems seem smaller and solutions more accessible. Even in difficult times, humor has a way of bringing hope and resilience.
So, don’t underestimate the power of a good laugh...even just a 2 minute break laughing with yourself! Seek out humor, surround yourself with people who make you smile, and never be afraid to laugh—at yourself, at life, and at the little moments in between. Because at the end of the day, laughter truly is the best medicine! So laugh it up!!
